Parental Role

THE ROLE OF THE PARENT

Parents as Partners

We see you, the parent, as a partner with us in the education of your child. We both have responsibilities and obligations. Neither of us can do it alone.

There are a number of formal occasions when you can come to discuss your child’s progress with us. However, if you have a concern, we are always happy to see you. Having said that, schools are busy places and teachers are sometimes unable to deal with important issues on the spot. This is particularly true at the start of the school day. Making an appointment will ensure that your concerns are given the time and professional consideration they deserve.

Many of our parents work alongside us in school. We value this tremendously. There is no limit to what we can find for you to do, so don’t be afraid that you have nothing to offer. After all, being a parent provides you with very valuable experience of working with children.

Homework

Our aim is to give children work to do at home that is both appropriate in terms of amount and helpful in terms of content. For example, younger children will bring home books to read or words to learn. Older children will have spellings or tables to learn at home or may be asked to do some research for a project.

All children have a home/school reading diary and in addition, those in KS2 have a homework diary as well. Please help us and your child by making sure that homework is done. Our homework policy sets out the suggested time to be spent on homework at each stage.
