Children with Special Educational Needs Our School’s Special Needs Policy aims to support all children who may have particular needs. This includes the exceptionally able. We aim to comply with the 1994 Code Of Practice, a parent’s copy of which is available upon request. Our Special Needs Co-ordinator is the focal point for a system which is designed to identify need at the earliest possible stage. Parents are consulted as soon as a child is identified as needing extra help. With the support of the appropriate agencies, where necessary, individual educational plans (IEP) are designed to provide clear targets and maximum support for your child. St. Andrew’s is proud to have been one of the pioneering schools to welcome children with specific disabilities as members of the school. Several such children attend mainstream classes in the school. Manser Building has an access ramp and toilet facilities for wheel chair users. We are also fortunate to be the base school for a unit for autistic children, The Chinnor Resource Unit, many of whose children work with us on a whole range of activities. All of us, children and staff alike, benefit greatly from the integration of these children. |
