Announcement re. Cross to Chinnor
Hill
The well established practice of carrying a cross from the village onto Chinnor Hill
was augmented with a procession around the village this year (2006),
following the successful implementation of this variation four years ago. [You
will remember the need to
keep off public footpaths and as a mark of respect and
sensitivity to the plight of the farming community in its struggle with
the foot and mouth epidemic earlier this decade.]
The cross was first carried around the village, starting from the Lych
Gate of St. Andrews Church at 07:00 on Good Friday, calling at the
Mehodist Church and the Congregational Church, pausing at the car park
near the top of High Street. From here, the second stage of the procession
continued up Donkey Lane, up Blood Gulley and on through the reservation
to the top of Chinnor Hill where the cross was erected for all to
see.
This was an ecumenical event and there were participants
from each of the Chinnor churches and from further afield. As usual, hot cross buns and hot drinks were available afterwards.
