Red Kites

Red Kites in the Chilterns

"Red Kites are magnificent birds of prey with a distinctive forked tail, russet plumage and a five-foot wing span".

This is the opening line of a new publication from the Red Kites in the Chilterns project, a partnership between the RSPB and the Chilterns Conservation Board. This is one of several publications recently issued by the Chilterns AONB Office in Chinnor. If you want to know more about Red Kites, contact the Red Kites in the Chilterns Officer at:

At the bottom of the page is the first of (hopefully) many pictures published by permission of the RSPB. We hope to bring you some more information in the near future, including some more photographs so watch this space!

If you want to see Red Kites in their natural habitat, why not join one of the guided walks organised by the Red Kites in the Chilterns Project.

Note that you can obtain further copies of the original leaflets from  Chilterns AONB Office Chinnor.

A really encouraging quote from Red Kites in the Chilterns Officer, Cathy Rose; "This year we anticipate around 130 breeding pairs rearing about 240 chicks - we won't know for sure until later in the year."

You can also see more of Red Kites at Chinnor Post Office where you will find a selection of Red Kite greetings cards, notelets and writing sets as well as some leaflets.
