Mr. Large expresses a concern that is critical to the residential vitality of the village: how to control those few who demonstrate no self control? That control is a duty of the village officials, not its individual residents or pub owners. Responsible pub owners start with their own efforts to promote consideration by their patrons as a measure of the pub's comraderie. Where that fails, police action is required on a regular and consistent basis that demonstrates complete intolerance with rude behavior. Those inconsiderate pub patrons will go elsewhere and, in turn, pubs that attract them will also find a new home. Search the web for information on the "tipping point" to see what results if strong action is not taken.

____________________________________________ Dear Chinnor Net As a resident of Chinnor (Glynswood) for two years I have seen the deterioration in the cleanliness of the streets of our village. Rubbish bins are overflowing. One bin has been removed, the one next to the Phone box at the Oakley Road / Station Road junction. As such the rubbish now collects in the undergrowth of the surrounding plants. I have seen school children kicking rubbish bags which are left out on a Tuesday for collection. When they have opened the bag they gleefully kick the rubbish about the streets. What has become of teaching them respect for the village they live in. Many times I have picked out Crisp packets, Lolly wrappers, & other sweets packets from my hedge, it seems some people, children in particular, see this as a bin instead of just dropping it, which they also do. Telling them off only results in a barrage of abuse and words which 10 year olds should not know. When the pubs empty at 10.30 or is it midnight?, we get the verbal rubbish. Shouting, screaming, fighting and beer bottles smashed and again pushed into the hedge or tossed over into the garden. The pub that seems to be the source is one located near that missing bin I mentioned earlier. Whilst we cannot make the Landlords responsible we can plead with them to ask their patrons to please be quiet on their way home. Some of us would like to have a decent nights sleep on a Friday, Saturday and now even Sunday nights. I moved back to Chinnor two years ago but I'm beginning to regret it. Please can we keep the streets clean and safe. Regards Ian Large
